Deputies arrest 5 men, seize 17 pounds of marijuana

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office arrested five men and seized 17 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop on Interstate 40 near Sedillo Hill Wednesday afternoon.

Deputy Felicia Maggard, a BCSO spokeswoman said around 3:30 p.m. a deputy pulled over a car on I-40. According to a criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court, the car was going six miles per hour over the speed limit and traveling east.

“The deputy recognized an odor of marijuana,” she wrote in a news release. “With assistance from the BCSO K9 Unit, 17 pounds of marijuana were located and seized.”

The driver, 25-year-old Gregory Williams, was arrested and charged with distribution of a controlled substance. His passengers Justin Morgan, 21, Jacoby Cooper, 20, Daron Crawford, 27, and Jani Williams, 19, were also arrested and charged with distribution of a controlled substance.

The men are from Louisiana, according to court records.

They said the were coming from either California or Las Vegas and heading to Oklahoma for a game, according to the complaint.
