Sports Speak Up!: Who remembers the Hatchet Man?

YEARS AGO the UNM basketball team had a player called “The Hatchet Man” (which is one of the great nicknames of all-time in any sport). His job was to seal off anyone coming into the “paint” for an easy score. Of course you can’t stop them all, but after dealing with him, opponents would think twice about it the second time around. There’s no player leadership on the current team which is why the Lobos have a losing record and have lost an amazing 5 games in the Pit. Toughen up your team, coach Weir.

WILL IT EVER be possible to bring some coaches to this town to produce a winner? Lobo football, baseball, and basketball all suck. Isotopes suck. Fans are dying to have a winner for a change.

Lobo basketball women are 16-2. Do you/local baseball fans really care if the Isotopes win? — Randy, Journal

GREAT OT WIN for the Lady Lobos Wednesday night. They won by 3, which is exactly the number of points they scored via technicals on UNLV. Maybe UNLV should learn to keep their yaps shut.

NOW I’M REALLY disappointed because I thought the coach was finally seeing some very obvious flaws and was making adjustments. Playing McGee more, getting the ball into the low post more, playing Bragg more, and changing up defenses. … (L)ess PT for Pinchuk, more PT for Manigault and get Bragg and Manigault the ball at the low post twice as much. This won’t solve the toughness issue, but the 3 point shot has made this team complacent.

WHO AMONG the Saints fans crying fowl over last weekend’s non call remember the non call of roughing the passer against Brett Farve in the 2009 NFC Championship Game? Methinks thou dost protest too much.

NICE TO SEE Jilted NFL fan want to change the Overtime rule when it’s the Players themselves that prefer the current way it is. They all know what they signed up for.
