SANTA FE — Sen. Mimi Stewart, D-Albuquerque, will be taking on a leadership role with the National Conference of State Legislatures — a bipartisan group that provides research to states and advocates on their behalf in Washington, D.C.
Stewart was appointed to serve as national vice chairwoman of the conference’s education committee.
“As a retired educator, I am committed to creating and implementing policies that improve our schools so that our teachers and students succeed,” Stewart said in a written statement. “I look forward to working with this bipartisan committee to move public education forward.”
The standing committees of the National Conference of State Legislatures explore policy questions facing states and help craft priorities for the group’s lobbying in Washington.
