Carlos C De Baca, 93, passed away in Santa Fe, N.M., on Jan. 29. He was born to Luis and
Florentina Grzelachowski C De Baca on Oct. 1, 1925, in Puerto de Luna, N.M.
He was raised in Newkirk, N.M., where his father and grandfather had a ranch. He graduated from Santa Rosa High School in May 1946.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946 in the Asiatic Pacific area and in the U .S. Marine Corps from 1951-1954 in Korea and Japan. He had a career with the State of New Mexico in the banking and highway departments and retired to Rio Rancho.
He is survived by his children, Contessa of Phelan, Calif., and Elizabeth (husband John) of Santa Fe, N.M.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his brother, Luis C De Baca of Las Cruces, N.M. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Celina Strand, Oma Gallegos, and Robert C De Baca; and son Robert C De Baca.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, Feb. 3, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. (with a Rosary at 3 p.m.) and on Monday, Feb. 4, from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. at Berardinelli Funeral Home, 1399 Luisa St. in Santa Fe. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 4, at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi in Santa Fe.
A reception will follow the Funeral Mass at Crespin Hall. Burial at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
