According to a New Mexico State Police news release issued Friday, Bosque Farms police fielded a call from a stolen car victim who said she was in the Peralta area following her stolen Kia Optima.

“As the victim followed her stolen vehicle,” State Police said, “a suspect from within the stolen vehicle allegedly fired shots toward her.”

Bosque Farms police found the car in Peralta and a pursuit began, ending on El Cerro Loop near Toy Lane in Los Lunas. A passenger was immediately taken into custody, while the driver ran, leading officers on a foot chase.

“During the foot pursuit a Bosque Farms PD officer discharged his department-issued weapon,” said State Police, adding that the suspect was not hit by gunfire. “A Valencia County Sheriff’s sergeant located the driver and tased him.”

The driver — identified as Samuel Jose Orona, 28, of Belen — was taken into custody.

Orona is charged with felony counts of taking of a motor vehicle and aggravated fleeing from a law enforcement officer and a misdemeanor count of resisting or evading arrest.

State Police’s Investigations Bureau was asked to investigate the incident in which no officers were injured.
