Stargazing parties are back on the West Side

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Come and connect with the cosmos now that Star Parties are back at the Open Space Visitor Center, 6500 Coors NW between MontaƱo and Paseo del Norte at the end of Bosque Meadows Road.

Mark your calendar for the first one this Saturday.

bright spotThere will be telescopes of all sizes and types for viewing the stars and the early spring skies, organizers said in a news release.

Participants will get to see stars, planets, many galaxies, nebulae and other deep sky objects, along with safe viewing of the sun before sunset they said.

There will be activities for kids in the visitor center lobby and a presentation in the media room of the series “Cosmos,” with Neil deGrasse Tyson, running all evening. In addition, there will be an astronomy presentation at 7 p.m. in the Kiva Room.

Visitors should be prepared for chilly evening weather and should bring red-light headlamps or flashlights.

The Open Space Visitor Center is open Tuesday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closed Mondays. Call 897-8831 for more information or visit www.cabq.gov/openspace.
