SF Councilor JoAnne Vigil Coppler latest to consider CD3 race

Santa Fe City Councilor JoAnne Vigil Coppler confirmed to the Journal that she is considering a run for the 3rd  Congressional District seat being vacated by Ben Ray Luján.

“That’s the operative word, I’m ‘considering’ it,” she said.

Last week, Vigil Coppler updated the cover photo on her Facebook page with one of her standing in from of the Capitol building in Washington, D.C. That prompted her Facebook friends to ask if she was hinting at something.

Vigil Coppler says she had been asked by people to run for the Congressional seat and is spending time researching the idea so she could “understand the magnitude and reality of it.”

A Santa Fe native, Vigil Coppler was elected to the City Council in District 4 in March of last year.

She formerly worked as human resources director for the city of Santa Fe. She’s also held administrative positions with the First Judicial District Court and the New Mexico Supreme Court. She currently works as a realtor.

She is the second member of the Santa Fe City Council to say she’s considering a run for Congress. Renee Villarreal said last week she was contemplating a run.
