ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Police arrested the third suspect in connection with the death of Loretta Benally
The 55-year-old Farmington woman was repeatedly raped by three men in a van Sunday afternoon, authorities said.
Elmer Billy, 45, was arrested Wednesday at the Farmington Police station after detectives interviewed him, Detective Bruce Holiday said.
Benally, at about 10 a.m. Sunday, was inside the van located in the 600 block of W. Arrington St., drinking with Marvin Williams, 36, and Billy. Police allege the woman was raped by the two men before a third male, Herman Tsosie, 33, arrived at the van and also raped her.
The mother of two died about 4:30 p.m. Monday from blunt force trauma to the upper torso, an injury police believed occurred during the first of three rapes, Holiday previously said.
The three men all are charged with first-degree felony criminal sexual penetration, second-degree felony conspiracy to commit criminal sexual penetration, first-degree felony kidnapping and second-degree felony conspiracy to commit kidnapping, Holiday said.
Williams, who was arrested Tuesday, also faces an open count of murder charge because police believe he is responsible for Benally’s fatal injury.
