NMSP: Man arrested in slaying at Magdalena lodge

Jo Hill

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A man is accused gunning down another man during a fight outside a lodge in Magdalena on Monday afternoon, according to New Mexico State Police.

State Police spokesman Mark Soriano said Jo Hill, 39, has been booked into the Socorro County Detention Center on an open count of murder. He did not identify the man Hill allegedly killed.

Soriano said local authorities responded to a shooting at the High Country Lodge, at 303 First Street in Magdalena, around 1:30 p.m. They found a man shot and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

“State Police agents learned that the victim and Jo Hill got into a physical altercation in the parking lot of the High Country Lodge,” he said. “Shortly after the physical altercation, Hill armed himself with a firearm and fired several shots at the victim, striking and killing him.”
