IT APPEARS as though some Aggie fans are getting restless with the return of “Tone” (the name given to Anthony Mathis by UNM’s radio play-by-play announcer Robert Portnoy). 125 is the number I recall as the highest decibel level ever reached in the Pit (which reportedly is the equivalent of noise from a jet engine). How about going for 126 when NMSU comes to town? With an opportunity to put an end to UNM’s 5 game losing skid vs. the Aggies, I’ll risk my sense of hearing to be a part of that atmosphere.

GEOFF’S STORY (Tuesday) morning about Mathis is a non-story. Was there really anything new in this piece? Waste of ink.

Anthony Mathis’ public comments were new, as was the reporting that he has to untie his connections to an agent to be eligible again. True, Mathis didn’t enlighten readers on how he gained an extra year. The Journal has been trying and will continue to try to find out. — Randy, Journal
UNM BUDGET SOLUTION: Quit making athletics self supporting. Very few D1 schools require their ADs to break even or be profitable. Almost all rely on subsidies from (the) university. Do biology and art departments pay for themselves?
