DA Serna says he will formally announce congressional run Thursday

SANTA FE, N.M. — Santa Fe District Attorney Marco Serna will formally announce his candidacy for the U.S. House seat in northern New Mexico’s 3rd Congressional District Thursday (May 30) at his mother’s jewelry store in Española, Serna said Wednesday.

Serna has previously filed papers to run for the seat, now held by U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján of Nambé, with the Federal Election Commission. Luján is vacating the House seat to run for U.S. Senate in 2020.

Serna himself will forego running for a second term as chief prosecutor in the 1st Judicial District – Santa Fe, Rio Arriba and Los Alamos counties – to seek the congressional seat.
