Sports Speak Up! On Kelati, radio programming, Alford

I DON’T KNOW what was going through the mind of UNM’s Weini Kelati at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships 10,000-meter race when a University of Oregon competitor was closing in on her coming down the stretch run. What was going through my mind while watching the race was “not today, Duck Nation. After the turmoil created by Anthony Mathis transferring to Oregon, there’s no way you’re passing Kelati.” This one was for UNM and its fans. Thank you Ms. Kelati and congratulations on your national title.

DURING THE PAST week, one could listen to Isotopes’ games on 610 AM and United soccer games on ESPN, to include one of their games airing on Wednesday evening instead of Game 4 of the NBA Finals. Also, how many people actually listen to UNM baseball? And good luck listening to any of the NHL playoff games. The losers are fans here in the area who miss out listening to the big games while working when the “minor” league games air. I’m trying to understand these programming decisions, particularly for ESPN Radio?

ZERO STATUES. After the latest naming rights for the Pit were announced, we were told that there was going to be an outdoor statue of Bob King somewhere outside the building to honor him and present photo-ops. Another Lobo fan had spoken about a statue for Mike Roberts, as well, after his passing. Where are the statues?

SEÑOR ALFORD, you know that you are always welcome at the Pit and Albuquerque. Good luck in the MWC.
