ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Albuquerque Police Department identified the man who allegedly rammed a SUV into a northeast Albuquerque grocery store last Wednesday before being shot and killed by a security guard.

APD spokesman Gilbert Gallegos said John Castillo, 40, drove a Jeep into the entrance of Albertsons at Lomas and Juan Tabo NE, also striking a security guard, who then shot Castillo. He later died at a hospital.

Police say Castillo was trying to free a woman who had been detained by store employees for allegedly stealing liquor.

The security guard, who worked for Desert Wolf Security, has not been charged and police say the case will be reviewed as a possible justified homicide.
