RIO RANCHO, N.M. — Due to several simultaneous challenges we have faced, including key elements of a venue partnership that we believe were not fulfilled, athlete injuries and state-required athlete medical exam results not being submitted by participating athletes on a timely basis, Combate Americas is regrettably canceling its scheduled live event at Santa Ana Star Center on Friday (June 28) and re-routing its much-anticipated world featherweight championship bout between Andres Quintana and Bruno Cannetti to Friday, August 23, at a location to be announced soon.
In addition to the Quintana-Cannetti bout, Combate Americas will be moving its other fighters who are under promotional contract and were scheduled to compete on this Friday’s card, to other upcoming events, including ‘Combate Fresno’ on August 2, the aforementioned event on August 23 and a soon-to-be-announced event on September 20.
Anyone who purchased tickets online for the event will automatically be refunded the entire payment electronically, while anyone who purchased tickets at the Santa Ana Star Center box office can obtain a full refund by returning the tickets purchased to the box office.
We are sensitive to the fact that the athletes who are committed to their profession train extremely hard to perform at the highest level possible and that this schedule change has inconvenienced them. Since we launched our live event series in 2015, Combate Americas has prided itself on delivering a first-class event and experience for both fans and fighters and, given the lack of options, we are taking what we feel is a necessary step.
The New Mexico Athletic Commission has been informed of the situation and our position, and has expressed its understanding.
