Fishing Line — June 27


A 20-inch rainbow trout was caught by Kevin Edwards, 7, from Las Vegas, Nevada.


Streamflow on the SAN JUAN RIVER was increased to 600 cfs Saturday and was at 596 cfs on Monday morning. Trout fishing through the high-quality waters was fair using red larva, San Juan worms, scuds and small streamers. Fishing the bait waters was fair to good using night crawlers, small spoons and jerk baits.

ELEPHANT BUTTE LAKE, fishing was fair using top-w flow on the RIO GRANDE below Elephant Butte on Monday morning was 2,160 cfs. Fishing below Elephant Butte and downstream from Caballo was good using curly tail grubs, small crank baits, sassy shad and minnows for white bass and walleye.

Monday morning flows on the CHAMA RIVER below El Vado and Abiquiu were 1,420 cfs and 1,480 cfs, respectively. Fishing below El Vado was fair using night crawlers and Rapalas for brown and rainbow trout.

Fishing at TINGLEY BEACH’S Central and Youth ponds was good using worms for bluegill. Fishing for all other species was slow, with just a few catfish caught by anglers using homemade dough bait and  worms.

Fishing  at FENTON LAKE was good using spoons, Pistol Petes, nightcrawlers, PowerBait, spinners and a variety of flies fo trout.

EL VADO LAKE, fishing was very good using chartreuse spoons, tubes, jigs and swim baits for smallmouth bass.

Fishing at CONCHAS LAKE was very good using worms for bluegill. Streamflow on the CIMARRON RIVER near Cimarron on Monday morning was 24.0 cfs. Fishing was good using San Juan worms, spinners and worms for trout. Fishing at the Gravel Pit Lakes was good using PowerBait, worms and Pistol Petes for trout.

Fishingat EAGLE NEST LAKE was good using spinners, Kastmasters and PowerBait for rainbow trout. At LAKE MALOYA, fishing was very good using Pistol Petes, spoons, spinners, copper John Barrs, woolly buggers and PowerBait for rainbow trout up to 20 inches.

Fishing at UTE LAKE was very good using worms and small crappie jigs for big bluegill. At SUMNER LAKE, fishing was good using top water lures, tubes, creature baits, Ned rigs, crank baits, jerk baits and senkos for smallmouth bass.
