SANTA FE — State Sen. Richard Martinez, D-Española, who was arrested and charged with aggravated DWI Friday night, has entered a not guilty plea in Rio Arriba Magistrate Court.
The plea was entered Tuesday by Martinez’s attorney, David Foster, via a court filing.
Martinez was booked after his SUV rear-ended another vehicle that was stopped at a red light in Española.
Martinez, who is chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, could not successfully perform sobriety tests after the crash, as shown on police lapel-cam video. He refused to take a breath test to determine blood-alcohol content.
Martinez at first said he had a couple of beers, but then said he’d had three glasses of wine at a meeting in Santa Fe.
