ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Authorities say detectives in the Crimes Against Children Unit are investigating the death of a two-week-old infant at a Northwest Albuquerque apartment complex Sunday.

According to an APD spokesman, officers were dispatched to the 1800 block of Indian School NW following reports that an infant was unresponsive.

Emergency medical personnel attempted treatment, but they determined the baby was “beyond help,” APD spokesman Simon Drobik said in an email Sunday evening.

Drobik said medical investigators determined the child’s injuries were suspicious. The CACU investigation was launched around 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

“Detectives are conducting interviews to determine the course of events and what caused the injuries,” Drobik said. “This is an open and active case.”
