One dead after NE Albuquerque shooting

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — One person is dead after a shooting in northeast Albuquerque Wednesday afternoon.

Albuquerque police responded to reports of a shooting on the 800 block of Locust NE, near Lomas and Interstate 25, just before 4 p.m. where a spokesman said one person appeared to have a gunshot wound.

“That individual did succumb to their injuries on scene,” Officer Daren DeAguearo, an APD spokesman, wrote in an email.

DeAguero said the death is being investigated as a homicide. He said the scene was still active around 5 p.m.

Officers searched the area and detained one “person of interest” for questioning Wednesday night, DeAguero said.

He didn’t identify the victim, person of interest, or say if there are any suspects.
