Lobos on Pac Coast team
Sam Choi and Ignacio Arcaya, who will be sophomores for the University of New Mexico men’s golf team, along with Greg Condon, are on the Sun Country team in the Pacific Coast Amateur Championship that takes place at UNM Championship Golf Club July 23-26.
Condon, from Monte Vista, Colo., won the New Mexico-Texas Amateur Championship at Paa-Ko Ridge Golf Colf Club on June 23. Choi and Arcaya won the Four Ball Championship at Santa Ana on May 19.
Challenge Cup teams set
The 2019 Sun Country Challenge Cup, which pits the amateurs against the professionals of the Sun Country region, will take place at Paradise Hills Golf Club on Aug. 4.
The Sun Country PGA and the Sun Country Amateur Golf Association serve up their top 16 players to compete in a one-day competition for the Challenge Cup.
The event is staged in a playing format similar to the Ryder Cup as both teams face off in team play in the morning and singles play in the afternoon.
This year’s amateurs are: Simon Miller, Ignacio Arcaya, Roy Choi, Sam Choi, Slater Sivage, Ben Tolsma, Davis Chung, Greg Condon, Jennifer Delgadillo, Crispin Fuentes, Noah Hicks, Brian Kern, Nick Quintela, Anton Salome and Richard Yai.
The professionals are: Ron Allen, Kevin Amhaus, Gerome Espinoza, Bill Harvey, Steve Manning, Pat Murphy, David Muttitt, Don Yrene, Brad Lardon, Devin Miertschin, Justin Aragon, Faylyn Beyale, Dustin Blair, Carlton Blewett, Javier Delgadillo and Luis Delgadillo.
The professionals hold a 34-17-1 overall lead in the series.
