RIO RANCHO, N.M. — A Rio Rancho man was killed in a single-car crash early Sunday near the Interstate 25/Cerrillos Road interchange in Santa Fe, according to the New Mexico State Police.
A news release said that an investigation indicated a 2007 Corvette was traveling south on Cerrillos Road at a high rate of speed. The driver, Hector Hugo Madrid Gutierrez, 22, of Rio Rancho took the south bound ramp onto I-25, then lost control of the vehicle and rolled. The accident took place about 5:30 a.m.
Madrid Gutierrez was ejected and sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead by the state Office of the Medical Investigator.
The State Police said alcohol appears to have been a factor in the crash and that seatbelts “do not appear to have been properly utilized.”
