University of New Mexico Athletics leads the Mountain West Conference for the eighth consecutive year in scholar athletes, with 135 so honored. It’s the most UNM has produced since 145 in 2015-16.
To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in a Mountain West-sponsored sport.
Six Lobo programs either led the league or tied for the league lead within their respective sports: football, men’s golf, men’s tennis, women’s cross country, women’s golf and women’s soccer. UNM’s football program had a program record 14 honorees, and that total was the most of any football program since the 2005-06 season when BYU had 20 honorees.
New Mexico’s men’s golf team had six of the league’s 16 honorees in the sport, and the men’s tennis team had six of the league’s 17 honorees in that sport.
