SANTA FE – The Santa Fe Police Department has launched a homicide investigation after a man was found mortally wounded in downtown Santa Fe on Saturday night.
The body was near where an apparent murder-suicide occurred just 10 days prior.
Matthew Corral, 33, was found in the road near West De Vargas Street and Don Gaspar Avenue around 12:22 a.m. Sunday by an Uber driver. The driver and his passengers attempted CPR on Corral, who had “visible trauma to his chest,” according to an SFPD news release.
Officers are awaiting results from an autopsy to determine a cause of death and did not have any suspects as of Monday evening. They have also not said what may have caused the fatal injury.
Corral was found near where a popular New Mexico singer was killed by her husband in an apparent murder-suicide on July 11. Police say Jessie Saucedo, 34, shot Ernestine Romero, 32, twice in the chest before turning the gun on himself in a parked car at the Jerry Apodaca Education Building. The couple had been living separately in recent weeks.
