NM students win scholarships for service, skills

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Comcast NBCUniversal has awarded $30,000 in scholarships for the 2019-20 school year to 12 New Mexico students as part of its annual Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program.

Students are selected for their community service, academic performance, and leadership skills.

The award, funded by the Comcast NBCUniversal Foundation, is a one-time, $2,500 scholarship to be used toward undergraduate education-related expenses.

Since 2001, more than $33 million has been awarded to nearly 30,000 high school seniors across the country.

“Our Leaders and Achievers scholarship winners are exceptional students who are committed to academic excellence and community service,” said Chris Dunkeson, area vice president. “We are honored to recognize their achievements and excited to support them as they continue their educational journeys.”

The scholarship recipients in New Mexico are:


• Alexandra Ulibarri – Hope Christian School

• Jennifer Dominguez – Atrisco Heritage Academy High School

• Nicolas Estrada – Volcano Vista High School


• Keely Stockham – Farmington High School


• Marcella Garcia – Middle College High School

Las Cruces

• Maria Maya – Onate High School

• Renee Catanach – Mayfield High School

Las Vegas

• Andres Garcia – Robertson High School

Los Alamos

• Samuel Crooks – Los Alamos High School

Santa Fe

• Adilene Carrasco Quezada – Capital High School

• Belen Calderon – Capital High School

• Estrella Torres – Pojoaque Valley High School
