ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A woman was jailed after police say she threw her dog off a third-floor balcony in Downtown Albuquerque on Wednesday, then kicked the officers who came to arrest her for it.
Ashley Scott, 28, is charged with extreme cruelty to animals and two counts of battery against a peace officer. She was booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center on Wednesday night.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court, officers responded to the area of Sixth and Central SW after a passerby saw Scott throw the dog from the balcony.
“The dog was pronounced dead on scene and later found in a nearby dumpster,” a detective wrote.
An Animal Welfare Department officer checked the dog's microchip and discovered the animal was registered to Scott. As Scott was being detained, she told officers, “Yes, I told him I killed my own (expletive) dog,” according to the complaint.
Police say a necropsy will be done to determine if the dog was dead before being thrown off the balcony or died as a result of the fall.
The complaint states that after officers handcuffed Scott, she kicked two of them in the shin and thigh.
