Santa Fe seeking ‘expressions of interest’ for campus development

SANTA FE – Santa Fe city government has posted a “request for expressions of interest” from developers, educational institutions and businesses with ideas for use of the city-owned Midtown Campus off St. Michael’s Drive.

Submissions are due by the end of October. Developers will be offered tours of the Midtown site in early September, says a City Hall news release.

The campus, purchased by the city years ago as the old College of Santa Fe closed, has been vacant since the for-profit Santa Fe University of Art and Design shut down in the spring of 2018. The city owes more than $2 million a year on its loan for purchase of the 60-acre property.

City officials have said they would like to see housing, a higher education institution and digital film and entertainment businesses on the site, which includes the active Garson Studios film studio.

Mayor Alan Webber said city officials are “encouraged by the tremendous interest we are getting from some of the most experienced local and national firms to create our shared vision for a vibrant Midtown Santa Fe District. It is a testament to the reputation and appeal of our culturally rich and historic city that these people want to be a part of this project.”
