SANTA FE — Democratic presidential hopeful Cory Booker will hold a fundraising event in Albuquerque next week as part of a western swing.
The campaign stop will mark the second visit from a Democratic presidential candidate to New Mexico this month, as Pete Buttigieg held two private fundraisers in Santa Fe on Aug. 3.
Booker, a U.S. senator from New Jersey, is one of 10 Democratic candidates that have qualified for the next round of presidential debates this fall. Several candidates have recently dropped out of the race.
The Albuquerque fundraiser will take place at Marble Brewery on Monday at 5 pm. Tickets to attend the event range from $25 to $500.
New Mexico, which has five electoral votes, is not one of the early primary states, as its primary election will not be held until June 2020.
Although New Mexico has voted for Republicans in the past, the state has voted for Democratic presidential candidates in each of the past three presidential election years — 2008, 2012 and 2016.
The last Republican candidate to win New Mexico was George W. Bush, in 2004.
