Mentorship Award: Jean Block, CEO, Jean Block Consulting Inc.

Jean Block

Jean Block is CEO of her namesake consulting company. She is being recognized for her willingness to invest in future leaders.

One supporter noted: “Jean takes a personal interest in her mentoring relationships. Jean is so willing to her sharing her skills, knowledge and expertise, which makes the relationship personable.”

Another supporter relished Block’s incredible leadership and investment to others and the community stating: “Jean fiercely invests in the next generation of leaders by providing direct access to resources, unlimited time, introductions and connections, overwhelming moral support, and relevant material to career development. Jean enthusiastically lends her shoulders for her mentees to stand on, while upholding and modeling the highest levels of professionalism, integrity, compassion and honesty in our community. Many leaders in Albuquerque rely on Jean for her dispassionate analysis, her insight, and her selfless commitment to the growth of … organizations in New Mexico and nationally.”

Block started mentoring young people as a leader in Girl Scouts, and continues that tradition more than 50 years later. She is one of the 25 national consultants who shared her insight on nonprofit consulting in “The Nonprofit Consulting Playbook,” published by Charity Chanel Press. She is also the author of several books.

She had her first fundraiser at the age of 13 and has been smitten since – incorporating Jean Block Consulting Inc. in 1995.

“(I) was immediately hooked on how volunteers can work together to invest in a brighter future,” Block writes on her website. “My career in the non-profit sector has given me firsthand experience in nonprofit management and administration, strategic planning, volunteer recruitment and retention, marketing, public relations, board management and fundraising. I have served in staff and volunteer leadership roles in local, regional and national nonprofits.”

Another supporter said: “Jean is passionate about the next generation and is an innovative thinker. She always takes the time to share her expertise and leads with her heart. I am honored to know her. She would be truly deserving of this award.”
