LAS CRUCES — The New Mexico State Aggies posted their fifth consecutive sweep on Saturday night, making light work of the in-state rival University of New Mexico Lobos (25-15, 25-17, 25-14) in the Borderland Invitational being played in the Pan Am Center.
NMSU (5-0) had 45 kills in the match and hit .313. UNM (2-4), meanwhile, had just 18 kills and a minus-.011 hitting percentage.
“We did a better job passing the ball today,” NMSU head coach Mike Jordan said. “I think we served it tougher, putting UNM on its heels. Our blockers also did great. They were really solid again for us.”
Megan Hart had 10 kills and seven blocks and Krysten Garrison had 21 assists for the Aggies, who wrap up the tournament against UTEP at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Earlier Saturday in the Borderland Invitational, UNM swept Pacifc 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-16).
The Aggies close out the Borderland Invitational with a match against UTEP at the Pan American Center on Sunday, Sept. 8. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. MT.
New Mexico next plays Friday in Seattle vs. Gonzaga.
