SANTA FE, N.M. — The search continues in the Española area for 5-year-old Renezmae Caldaza, who went missing Sunday morning.
Law enforcement authorities had scheduled a 2 p.m. Tuesday news conference to discuss the case, but the event was canceled.
“Only update is we are still looking for this girl and anyone with information should call the Sheriff’s Office 505-753-5555,” said FBI spokesman Frank Fisher in an email.
Online, local volunteers were still organizing search parties to look for Renezmae, who was last seen playing in her front yard abut 9:45 a.m. Sunday, in the vicinity of McCurdy Road and Tesuque Lane in central Española.
Her mother reported her missing about 6 p.m. Sunday and law enforcement agencies issued an Amber Alert at 10:45 p.m. that night.
On Monday, authorities said a man considered a possible suspect in the case was arrested late Sunday by personnel from the Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s Office.
He has not been charged in Renezmae’s disappearance but is being held on three warrants out of Bernalillo County, they said. The man has not been identified.
One group of volunteer searchers organizing on Facebook was making plans to search Tuesday along 31 Mile Road, which runs west off of U.S. 285 in northern Española through Santa Clara Pueblo.
“We are following leads and tips,” says one post.”We appreciate everyone. Please keep Mae Mae and our families in your prayers.”
