Sports Speak Up! Get well to Davie; NM Sports HOF recommendations

I WANTED TO SEND Coach Bob Davie a card, but Hallmark doesn’t make a “I don’t know what is wrong with you but get well soon” card.

THE NEW MEXICO Sports Hall of Fame is asking the public to assist with voting in the next class for induction. One can only vote once on their website and 75% of the Board of Directors has to approve of the candidate for consideration. At least 5 of the 101 current worthy candidates are going in? In no particular order: 1.) Billy Moya (has done so much for golf). 2.) Rick Wright (hopefully this Journal “retiree” is writing a book). 3.) Cody Unser (courageous). 4.) Fred Hultberg (he’s everywhere). 5.) Holly Holm (nothing further need be said).

Institutionally, we haven’t endorsed candidates since I’ve been here, but I would endorse Mr. Wright. — Randy, Journal

EVEN WITH THE loss of UNM men’s team there is still high quality college soccer to be found in NM. The ENMU Greyhounds last week knocked off 2 nationally ranked Division 2 teams. Shutouts of both No. 17 Colorado Mesa and No3 Fort Hays by 2-0 scores.

ENMU since has entered the national Division II poll at No. 17. — Randy, Journal

CONGRATULATIONS TO former Lobo coach Mike Locksley on his Maryland team’s success and win over (then-)No. 21 Syracuse. Remembering Lockskey’s ugly departure from Loboland, I have to wonder if the problem was really Locksley or perhaps the media, the fans, the program … .
