President Donald Trump’s Monday rally may be in Rio Rancho’s City Center, but it will also interrupt normal activity about 20 miles away in Downtown Albuquerque.

Bernalillo County says it is closing several of its Downtown Albuquerque offices at 2 p.m. Monday to comply with U.S. Secret Service orders. They will not reopen until 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Trump is scheduled to speak at 7 p.m. Monday at the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho.

A county spokesman said federal officials told the county its buildings in Albuquerque had to be cleared by 3 p.m. and County Manager Julie Morgas Baca is releasing staff at 2 p.m. to ensure everyone has time to depart.

The buildings include 1 Civic Plaza – shared administrative headquarters for both city and county government.

A city of Albuquerque spokeswoman confirmed city staff “will have to clear the building at some point (Monday) for safety reasons,” but said Albuquerque officials would not be providing more extensive details until Monday. She could not say Friday how many additional city buildings might be affected.

The closure also affected a regularly scheduled Albuquerque City Council meeting.

The council postponed the meeting at 1 Civic Plaza, originally scheduled for 5 p.m. Monday, until 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Bernalillo County says it is also closing its offices in the following buildings at 2 p.m. Monday:

• Assessor’s Office, 501 Tijeras NW.

• County Annex, 415 Tijeras NW.

• Law Enforcement Center, 400 Roma NW.

• Public Safety Building, 401 Roma NW.

• Steve Schiff Building, 520 Lomas NW.
