One of the 11 West Mesa Victims Laid to Rest

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Burial for Veronica Romero held at Calvary Cemetery

Burial for a woman who was one of 11 women whose remains were unearthed on Albuquerque’s Southwest Mesa earlier this year was held Tuesday at Calvary Cemetery, KOB-TV reported.

The remains of Veronica Romero were laid to rest 12 days shy of her 33rd birthday, according to the Albuquerque television station. She was 27 when she disappeared.

“We’re putting her to rest finally, but considering what’s been done, and now we’re finding out more of what’s happened to her, and it’s sad,” said family member Desiree Gonzales. “She was hurt real bad.”

KOB-TV said that Romero’s family acknowledge that she had a troubled past that included drug use and prostitution – something police say she had in common with the other victims who have been identified.
