Burqueños aren’t the only ones making the most of the New Mexico State Fair.
The Albuquerque Police Department made hundreds of misdemeanor and felony arrests during the weeklong festivities. Not to mention citing hundreds of motorists.
Gilbert Gallegos, an APD spokesman, said the auto theft unit made 48 felony arrests, including 12 bait car arrests, and recovered 21 stolen vehicles. Officers also arrested eight people on felony warrants and 13 on misdemeanor warrants.
In addition, he said, the DWI unit made 96 DWI arrests, four drug arrests and six felony arrests. Those officers also cited 904 people, including 394 for speeding, in the surrounding area.
“We are proud to host major showcase events like the State Fair and the Balloon Fiesta,” Mayor Tim Keller said in a statement. “Our investment in 100 new officers allows us to put more specialized resources toward keeping people and surrounding neighborhoods safe during large-scale events.”
