Motorcyclist killed in West Side crash

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Albuquerque police are investigating a crash that killed a motorcyclist on the city’s West Side Friday evening.

The crash occurred at Coors and Avalon NW around 7:45 p.m.

“This is a vehicle versus motorcycle accident,” said an Albuquerque Police Department spokesman Daren DeAguero said in an email release.

When officers arrived on scene they found a male on the ground, not breathing, he said. The motorcyclist died on scene.

DeAguero said the motorcyclist was traveling west on Central before he turned northbound on to Coors, accelerating quickly. At the same time, a truck was headed south on Coors and making a left turn to eastbound Avalon.

“As the truck made the turn it did not see the motorcycle headed north, and the motorcycle struck the truck,” DeAguero wrote.

The intersection is closed while police investigate.
