Police identify man shot, killed in NE ABQ

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Police have identified a man who was shot and killed at a Northeast Albuquerque apartment complex last week.

Angel Ortiz, 39, succumbed to his injuries on scene after he was found with trauma to the chest, according to a spokesperson for the Albuquerque Police Department.

Officers were dispatched to the 4400 block of Shepard Road NE, near Candelaria and Washington, around 9:20 p.m. on Sept. 25. after reports of gunfire.

“Officers arrived and located one male subject near an apartment with trauma to the chest,” APD spokesman Gilbert Gallegos wrote in a news release on Sept. 26.

He said investigators detained and interviewed Ortiz’s girlfriend, and she was subsequently released. After obtaining a warrant, detectives searched the apartment.

No arrests have been made and no suspect has been identified.
