Balloon Fiesta officials sent the green flag up just before 6:30 a.m. Sunday, giving the all clear for the second day’s mass ascension.
Lines at the entrance gates to Balloon Fiesta Park were already stretching into parking lots by 4:30 a.m. as people gathered for the second day of the 2019 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.
Balloons inflated quickly and started launching before 7 a.m.
The Albuquerque Box was in full affect, meaning balloons make a sort of loop over the park as are carried over the field.
Traffic was moving slowly along parts of Interstate 25, Tramway, and Alameda as thousands of fiesta-goers flooded the field.
On Twitter, fiesta officials warned day two would be significantly cooler while people waited for the sun to rise over the Sandias.
“Day two is a little chilly, bundle up this morning,” the tweet said.
