LAS CRUCES — The New Mexico State women’s golf team shot its third best score ever — and best at its own Aggie Invitational — with a 7-under-par 281 Tuesday in the second of the tournament’s three rounds.
The Aggies, with a 1-over 577 through two rounds, carry a 19-stroke lead over second-place Northern Arizona heading into Wednesday’s final 18 holes.
“We’ve had three tournaments before this, and we’ve had some rounds where we’ve been close to finishing off and really playing well,” head coach Danny Bowen. “We were just missing that fourth score, and I’ve been telling myself, ‘It’s going to be really fun when we do have four or five really solid scores. Today was one of those days.”
Aggie Amelia McKee, a Baylor transfer, shot a career-best 67 Tuesday and is in second place, 2-under one stroke out. Teammates Dominique Galloway and Alison Gastelum at 1-under and in the hunt for medalist honors.
