ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A man died after being shot through the front door of his West Side apartment Wednesday afternoon, according to the Albuquerque police department.
Gilbert Gallegos, an APD spokesman, said several people were detained after the shooting but did not say if police have any suspects. He did not identify the man who was killed.
He said officers responded to reports of gunfire around 4:30 p.m. at the Eagle Ranch apartments in the 9000 block of Eagle Ranch NW, near Paseo del Norte.
Gallegos said arriving officers were told a man was shot “numerous times” through an apartment door and the shooter was seen running through the complex.
He said they found a man shot in the chest and “beyond help” before taking several people into custody.
“Detectives have obtained a search warrant for the apartment and are conducting interviews,” Gallegos said.
The door to the apartment had been replaced, although an apparent bullet hole remained in the frame. Neighbors were still jumpy Thursday morning.
One man, who didn’t want to be identified, said he was sitting at his desk when he heard several gunshots ring out and went to his patio to see what was going on.
While on hold with police dispatch the neighbor said he saw a man, in his early 20s, frantically run past with one hand holding a purse and the other hidden inside their red hoodie.
“He locked eyes with me,” the neighbor said, still shook up from the incident.
