Breaking: Gov. Martinez Heading to Nevada to Campaign for Mitt Romney

Gov. Susana Martinez will travel to Nevada tomorrow in order to stump for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney in the Las Vegas area on Saturday, a political consultant confirmed today.

Martinez, the nation’s first elected Latina governor, will appear at three campaign events for Romney, according to Romney’s campaign.

Her travel expenses will be paid for by the Romney campaign, Martinez political consultant Jay McCleskey said.

President Barack Obama won Nevada’s six electoral votes in 2008 after gaining more than 55 percent of the votes cast in that state’s election. However, Romney is hoping to turn the tables this year in Nevada, which has the nation’s highest unemployment rate — about 12 percent.

Martinez, who has also attended political events in Tennessee and Texas in recent weeks, will return to New Mexico on Sunday, McCleskey said.
