Body found in suitcase identified as mother of suspect

PUEBLO, Colo. — Colorado authorities have identified a woman whose body was found in a suitcase in a large trash bin as the mother of the man suspected of killing her.

Pueblo County Coroner Brian Cotter on Monday identified the woman as 58-year-old Maria Agnes Cuevas-Garcia. Police officials tell the Pueblo Chieftain she is the mother of 36-year-old Anthony Cuevas, who was arrested on Friday on suspicion of murder and parole violation.

Cuevas’ first court appearance is set for Wednesday. It is not clear if he has a lawyer and there is no telephone listing under his name.

Surveillance video released by police shows a man pulling a large suitcase out of the trunk of a car on Thursday and throwing it into a garbage bin at a Pueblo car wash.
