BOISE, Idaho — Rio Rancho junior Leilani Baker’s golden goal in the 99th minute delivered a 1-0 overtime victory for fourth-seeded New Mexico (11-7-1, 7-4-1) over No. 5 San Jose State (7-9-4, 5-5-2) Tuesday in the Mountain West Conference women’s soccer tournament quarterfinals.
The victory pushes the Lobos into Thursday’s tournament semifinal at 2 p.m. against top-seeded host Boise State.
In the final minute of the first of two scheduled 10-minute overtime periods, jBaker took possession of a loose ball and beat SJSU’s goalkeeper one-on-one. It was Baker’s seventh goal of the season and third game winner.
No. 6 Fresno State won in penalty kicks after a scoreless 110 minutes with third-seeded Colorado State. Next up for FSU is No. 2 San Diego State at 11 a.m. Thursday.
