Officers are investigating a shooting Tuesday night in a West Side neighborhood that left a man dead, according to the Albuquerque Police Department.
It is the 70th slaying of the year and breaks the 2018 total, when there were 69.
Tanner Tixier, an APD spokesman, said the shooting occurred in a neighborhood north of Montano, between Unser and Golf Course. He did not identify the victim or say if police have any suspects.
He said police responded to a possible shooting around 8 p.m. in the 6600 block of Meadow Lake NW.
Tixier said arriving officers found a man who had been shot. He later died at the hospital.
“Homicide detectives are en route,” he said. Tixier did not give any other details.
The neighborhood was mostly quiet as police vehicles lined the street and blocked both ends. Officers waited in their vehicles as detectives and crime scene investigators met on the sidewalk in front of a home.
A few neighbors came out of their homes to see what was going on. Some of them watched quietly from their front yards as others wondered if there was any danger left in the streets.
