Haaland service scheduled for Saturday

A memorial service for John Haaland, a longtime Albuquerque teacher and coach whose name is virtually synonymous with the Duke City Dashers and the Great Southwest Track and Field Classic, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1100 Indian School Rd. NE. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall.

Haaland, 74, died on Oct. 27 after taking a fall at Dreamstyle Stadium while attending a UNM football game.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Great Southwest Track and Field Classic, c/o Fred Polich, 1932 Madeira NE, Albuquerque NM 87110.
