ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A man was in critical condition Wednesday night after being shot several times and crashing his vehicle on the West Side, according to the Albuquerque Police Department.
Daren DeAguero, an APD spokesman, said around 8: 15 p.m. officers responded to a possible shooting and crash near Unser and Tower.
“Officers arrived at the accident and discovered a male subject who appeared to have several gunshot wounds,” he said. “As he was driving he crossed lanes and wrecked into a vehicle.”
Unser was closed between Bridge and San Ignacio while officers walked the scene, shining lights on the pavement.
A dark-in-color sports car with at least one flat tire sat facing south with doors ajar in the northbound lane of Unser south of Tower. In a police vehicle behind the car, an APD officer talked into his service radio under a glowing red light.
Crime scene investigators walked over to the wrecked car around 10 p.m. and shone flashlights around the interior.
Officers could be heard talking about bullet casings from the backyards of houses on the opposite side of the street.
One family, whose backyard opened up to the scene, said they’ve seen crime increase not only in their neighborhood, but across the city.
