ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Police say a man found with a gunshot wound in Southeast Albuquerque earlier this month shot at someone who drove past him that night and was involved in an armed robbery in October.
Jorge Toledo Salinas, 19, is charged in the November incident with shooting at or from a motor vehicle, assault with intent to commit a violent felony, criminal damage over $1,000 and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
In the October incident, Salinas is charged with armed robbery, assault with intent to commit a violent felony, shooting at or from a motor vehicle and criminal damage to property.
According to two separate criminal complaints filed in Metropolitan Court and a news release from the Albuquerque Police Department last week, Salinas approached a woman in her car with his hands up as as she was driving home near Coal and Cedar on Nov. 14.
The woman told police she could see blood dripping from his left hand, and as he got closer to her car, he hit her front windshield and said “call 911, they hit my artery I am going to die.”
According to the complaint, the woman stopped her car and rolled her window down a little bit before telling Salinas her phone was dead but she would call the police when she got home.
Investigators say Salinas told her “if you don’t call, I’ll kill you,” before pointing a small handgun at her and shooting it at her car, causing the window to shatter.
The woman drove away and called police.
Around 9:30 that night, officers found Salinas and sent a news release saying they had found a male who appeared to have been shot.
Salinas was taken to UNM Hospital where he was treated for his injuries.
Police have not said how Salinas was shot.
About a month earlier, police say Salinas asked his friend for a ride to “make a sale.” According to the complaint, Salinas told the friend he would give him “weed” and a few dollars for gas money in exchange for the ride.
In surveillance footage taken outside of Salinas’s apartment, police say they saw him and his friend struggle over a backpack and a gun in the front seats of a vehicle before Salinas shot one round into the center console and one into the air outside the vehicle.
Salinas was arrested in Milan, NM, just west of Grants on Monday and booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center.
