Nob Hill will sparkle and shine during the Twinkle Light Parade.

The parade begins at 5:15 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7. It will run along Central from Washington west to Girard.

“This year’s parade has 120 entries, including 303 vehicles, 3,200 people, 16 horses, two llamas, 40 dogs, 135 bicycles, two boats, a forklift, a Zamboni and four marching bands, just to name a few,” Bree Ortiz, the city’s events and operations manager, said in an email.

Thousands of spectators attend the event each year. Eventgoers are encouraged to arrive early and stick around after the parade to enjoy all the great things Nob Hill has to offer.

The city has teamed up with Nob Hill Main Street to encourage shoppers to visit Nob Hill retailers and restaurants before and after the parade. The businesses will be offering holiday specials. The city will close Central Avenue between Washington and Girard from 2 to 10 p.m. for more pedestrian-friendly shopping and dining, according to Ortiz.

“With Twinkle Light Parade, we’re going to try something a little different – close the streets a little earlier,” said Chris Smith, owner of NM Real Estate Now and a member of the Nob Hill Main Street board. “Hopefully, people will come down. Usually people will set up right before the parade and as soon as the parade’s done they leave, which is fine, but we’re hoping people will come a little bit early this year, because the streets will be closed at 2 and the parade’s at 5:15. The parade usually gets through Nob Hill by 7:30, and then we’re going to keep the streets closed until about 10 o’clock, and hopefully people hang out and enjoy and check out some restaurants and shops as well.”

There is no need to waste time driving around looking for a parking space around Nob Hill. Free parking and shuttles will be available at a lot on the southwest corner of Lomas and University NE. The shuttles will take eventgoers to and from Johnson Field on the University of New Mexico campus from 2:30 to 10:30 p.m. The field is a short walk to the parade route in Nob Hill.
