Albuquerque, NM — Albuquerque native and New Mexico United soccer star Devon Sandoval will read to children during the Journal’s Holiday Bash.

“We are thrilled to have Devon join us for this year’s Holiday Bash,” said Journal Marketing Supervisor Mercy López-Acosta. “This past season, I enjoyed watching Devon and United crash opponents on the field. They instilled the love and culture of soccer in me so much that I already bought my season tickets for next year. I look forward to having him participate in the Journal’s Holiday Bash as he demonstrates the importance of literacy.”

The event, sponsored by American Home Furniture and Mattress, takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, December 7 at the Journal office, 7777 Jefferson St. NE in Albuquerque. Sandoval is scheduled to read at 1:30 p.m. in the Journal’s auditorium. The event is free and open to the public. Sandoval will also hold a short autograph session at the event. Several United officials will also be in attendance.

“The Holiday Bash is the perfect opportunity to get out and get your holiday shopping done,” said Journal Senior Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer Cecilia Uebel. “You can purchase one-of-a-kind gifts directly from the artists. Come and join us for a fun-filled day.”

Some of the vendors include tinwork, photography and pottery. We will also have Santa making a special appearance from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. along with mariachis from local school performing for a couple of hours.

This event is held in collaboration with the Journal’s Toy Drive for Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation. Attendees are asked to bring a new toy to give to children at Carrie Tingley Hospital. Donations of wrapping paper and bows are also being accepted.

“This is the holiday fair you don’t want to miss,” Uebel said. “There is plenty of fun for everyone in the family. We are especially thrilled that Devon will be joining us as many Journal staff members are United fans.”
