Aaron Blackwell, a senior nose tackle for the University of New Mexico football team, announced on social media on Friday that he has been granted another year of NCAA eligibility due to a medical redshirt for this past season.

Blackwell, a team captain, suffered a right knee injury during the Lobos’ season opener and the 6-foot-3, 288-pound defensive lineman missed the rest of the year.

“One of the hardest seasons of my life not just through injury but the countless hardships we faced as a team,” Blackwell said on Twitter. “Always Trust in God. Blessed to announce I have been granted another year of NCAA eligibility due to a medical redshirt for this past season.”
