Fifth ART crash in as many days

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Albuquerque’s new rapid transit system’s fifth crash came on its ninth day in business.

The long delayed project which spans much of Central Avenue launched Nov. 30. It wasn’t long before drivers started plowing into the colorful Albuquerque Rapid Transit buses which travel in dedicated center lanes.

City spokeswoman Alicia Manzano said Sunday evening’s crash happened when a car heading westbound near the ABQ BioPark stop over corrected into the left lane and hit the ART bus.

“There are no reported injuries and the ART bus sustained minor cosmetic damage,” Manzano said.

Eight passengers were on board at the time of the wreck, which took place around 5:15 p.m. Sunday.
