Time to celebrate: Casinos going all out for New Year’s events

There are plenty of area casinos offering various ways to ring in 2020 with special dinners, festive dances and more on Tuesday, Dec. 31.

SANDIA RESORT & CASINO: There are three ways to welcome the New Year at Sandia Resort & Casino. Dance into 2020 with DJ Shakim from 9:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the Grand Ballroom. DJ Shakim has been the DJ for several popular music acts including Da Brat, Bow Wow, Sean “P-Diddy” Combs, Mary J. Blige, R Kelly, Bell Biv Devoe and New Edition. The event is $40 per person. The Tlur Pa’ Lounge will be help you celebrate the coming year with Music of the Decades starting at 9 p.m. There is a $10 cover charge for the event.

Take the elevator upstairs to the Bien Shur Lounge for the Latin sounds of Micky Cruz. There is no cover for the party but get there early to grab a spot to enjoy the show that kicks off at 9 p.m. The three New Year’s Eve events are open to ages 21 and older.

Sandia guests can enjoy a nice dinner at Bien Shur from 5 to 11 p.m. Downstairs they can order from a special menu from 4 to 11 p.m. in the Council Room. Patrons seeking a little bit of everything will want to visit the Thur Shan Buffet from 4 to 9:30 p.m. The special buffet is $34.95 for adults and $15.95 for children. For more information, visit

ISLETA RESORT & CASINO: Join Isleta Resort & Casino on New Year’s Eve for its spectacular Roar into Twenty Twenty Party inside its Triple Sevens nightclub. The entertainment begins with DJ Remainz at 7:30 p.m. followed by The Daniel Solis Band from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 a.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. There will be drink specials including $7 Grey Goose, $8 Patron, $4 Marble Brewery pints as well as a $5 glass of champagne or a $25 champagne bottle. THE DOWNS RACETRACK & CASINO: The First Turn Lounge inside The Downs Racetrack & Casino is welcoming the New Year with its NYE 2020 party featuring local favorites Black Pearl. There is no cover for the event that will include a champagne toast. The Crown Room is offering a special New Year’s Eve dinner from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. for $59.99 per person. Guest can choose a seared jumbo sea scallop or pork braised wild boar osso bucco to start as well as their choice of apple and spinach salad or pancetta potato leek soup and an entree of either prime rib striploin or fresh Maine lobster many ways. SANTA ANA STAR CASINO HOTEL: Say hello to 2020 and goodbye to 2019 with an extravagant New Year’s Eve Dinner and Dance in the Vista Grande Ballroom at Santa Ana Star Casino Hotel. Doors open at 7 p.m. The dinner will be buffet style and feature prime rib, seafood, international specialties and artisan desserts. Fat City will get everyone up on the dance floor. Guests can enjoy a seafood and prime rib buffet from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. for $29.95 per person at the Feast Buffet. Up at the Juniper Steakhouse patrons can have a special three course meal for two that includes filet mignon carved tableside and served with Alaskan king crab legs from noon to midnight for $160. Down at Cantina Rio guests dig into a grilled sirloin steak served with mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus from 10 a.m. to midnight for $16.95 per person.

The Stage inside Santa Ana Star Casino Hotel will host an electrifying performance by DJ 3LAU. The Las Vegas, Nevada, based DJ is one of electronic dance music’s most successful acts. ROUTE 66 CASINO HOTEL: Legends Theater inside Route 66 Casino Hotel welcomes Louis Prima Jr. and The Witnesses for two performances of jazz, swing and rock ‘n’ roll. The matinee performance at 3 p.m. and an evening performance at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 general admission and are available online at There will be live entertainment throughout the casino and restaurants including performances by the Abe Mac Band, DJ Shurbeat, Dueling Pianos, Rodney Bowe and others. There will be a special countdown to midnight throughout the building with a balloon drop and confetti blast at selected venues inside the casino.
